Some UPdates and stuff

I've been away on vacation, and will be a bit scarce in the upcoming weeks because of some other commitments, and some Carpol Surgery scheduled in the near future.... I am able to take some extended vacation here lately because of the generosity of the local indian tribe's craps table... ;-)

I just read at PokerNews.com that Jaimie Gold, the winner of this years WSOP MAIN EVENT, is being sued for half his winnings! I guess it was only a matter of time..... Read the entire story HERE

Don't let Congress Ban Poker!

A few misguided congressmen have decided that they need to cow-tow to some special intrest groups with elections coming up, so they put this bullshit bill on the books to ban online gambling. NOW, it does not matter, that EVERY authoritative group on the subject has pointed out the deficiencies of the bill, and the hypocracy of what it stands for. This group just plods ahead, thinking THEY know what is best for YOU!

WHY can they do this? Simply because NO ONE STANDS UP TO THEM!!

Take a few minuts and send your congressman a note telling him how much YOU think this legislation is bullshit! It's SIMPLE.. just enter your Zip code and it sends letters FOR YOU!

JUST CLICK HERE!

Here are some key points published by the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) on this subject....

I strongly oppose H.R. 4411 which passed the U.S. House in July and implore you and your colleagues to oppose similar legislation that may be offered in the Senate.

With rising gas prices, a prolonged war in the Mid-East and an ever increasing national debt, the U.S. Senate has much better and bigger things to accomplish than a ban on poker.

More than 70 million Americans play poker. 23 million enjoy the game on the Internet. A vote against poker is a vote against me and other like minded Americans and will mobilize us in the November elections.

A recent CNBC poll showed that 91 percent of Americans would like to see online gambling regulated in the U.S. and not prohibited! Studies have shown that regulation and taxation of Internet poker could net the federal government $3.3 billion in revenue annually and another $1 billion for the states.

2006 WSOP Player of the Year

This short news release was put out by Cardplayer.com Magazine regarding the WSOP player of the year race for 2006:

Jeff Madsen Is the 2006 WSOP Player of the Year
Youngest Bracelet Winner Ever Beat Out Phil Hellmuth
It’s official.

Despite recent confusion concerning the World Series of Poker’s Player of the Year race, Jeff Madsen is the clear winner with 1,467,852 points. He outraced Phil Hellmuth, who finished with 1,130,559 points.

Harrah’s Rory Shanahan, who is responsible for keeping the race’s statistics, confirmed the results to CardPlayer.com early this morning.

Madsen, a 21-year-old film student from California, won two WSOP bracelets ($5,000 No Limit short handed and $2,000 No Limit) and made another final table. He also became the youngest bracelet winner in WSOP history.

Hellmuth won his tenth bracelet this year and made multiple final tables, including a third-place finish in Wednesday’s $1,500 No-Limit event. This caused some confusion among the media at the Rio (some had Hellmuth ahead of Madsen), but Shanahan assured CardPlayer.com that Madsen is indeed the WSOP Player of the Year.
